Santa Barbara Triathlon Mentor Women-Only Sprint Triathlon
Women-Only Sprint Course Sunday August 24th
Mentor Corp.
Mentor Corp.

Total Expected: 400

For years, our female participants begged us to add a Women-Only Sprint Course event, so we did. 2008 marks the fifth the year we'll offer this exclusive event open to female athletes only. No matter what your speed, goals, or experience level, this event has something for you. The calm ocean swim, relatively flat bike and nearly flat run make for a perfect introduction to the sport of triathlon. Seasoned "sprint specialists" enjoy meeting and exceeding personal goals while at the same time experiencing the supportive spirit of this unique event.

Please check the Divisions Page for Cut-off time information.

We offer a Parent Child Division for this event. [Details]

500 yard Swim: Quick and easy, the ocean swim parallels the beach. The average water temperature is 64 degrees. Wetsuits are optional but getting them off may negate any time advantages of wearing one.
6 Mile Bike
The course is very fast and nearly flat (with the exception of one decent-sized hill near the Four Seasons Biltmore). Carry the water you need, as this out-and-back course goes so quickly there's no time for a water station.
Obey all traffic laws – this is an open course. Please note that event volunteers are not able to disrupt or instruct the flow of traffic. Do not take instruction regarding your right-of-way from anyone unless it is a City Police officer or California Highway Patrol officer.
2 Mile Run: One mile out, one mile back – it's that simple. You can get water at mile one if you dare to slow down.

The Co-Ed Sprint and Women-Only Sprint transition areas will be separated again this year.
Co-Ed athletes should plan their set-up timing similar to last year.  We will be open at 5:30 AM and you will be called to the start line at 6:50 AM.

Women-only athletes should plan on setting up their transition area by the anticipated start time for your event.  (See our Schedule for anticipated start time.)  This will allow you to continue your transition set-up while the Co-Ed event is in progress.  Additionally, Co-Ed athletes will now be able to enter their transition area, after they have completed their event, without entering your transition area.

We are confident this change will improve your experience.  The Women-Only athletes will no longer be required to wait on the sand while the Co-Ed event is in progress and the Co-Ed athletes will be allowed to re-enter the transition area this year.
This change was prompted by your input in our post-event survey.  Thank you all for your comments.

REMEMBER TO OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS!
