We look forward to another successful year. However, prior to registering please understand the transfer and refund policies stated below.

If we have to cancel the event:

In the case of the event being canceled: After 36 consecutive years we were actually forced to cancel our event due to the fires and landslides in 2018. Having secured this policy saved our athletes tens-of-thousands of dollars. It happens and we’re prepared if it does. If we have to cancel our event for specific reasons*, you are will be refunded your full registration fee.
(*Coverage includes cancellation due to adverse weather, natural catastrophe or terrorism.)

If you have to cancel your participation. (You have options.)

We do realize that athletes may be prevented from participating for legitimate reasons – we’ve been there. If you are unable to participate, we will allow transfers to another athlete, for the current year only, under the following terms. The transfer process and associated deadlines are explained below.

We DO allow transfers.  We’ll allow transfers up to 14 days prior to the event. To transfer a confirmed entry in the Santa Barbara Triathlon from one party to another, please contact our office. We will cancel your entry and provide you with a discount code for the new registrant and, if necessary, submit a request to USAT to refund any one-day fee you may have paid. Please note: cancelling your registration will not result in a refund from IMAthlete or Santa Barbara Triathlon. You will work out reimbursement with the new registrant. The new registrant will use that code to sign-up for the event.  

Please note:

  1. We do not maintain a list of people looking to buy or sell entries.
  2. Individual entries can be transferred regardless of division, gender, age, etc.

Warning:
If any athlete sells his/her entry and it is not communicated to the Event Director in accordance to the transfer process described above, both athletes will be disqualified and prohibited from participating in the Santa Barbara Triathlon for a minimum of 2 years. Selling an entry jeopardizes our event insurance and will ultimately result in higher insurance and entry fees. For more information on this issue please consult USA Triathlon.

 

Santa Barbara Triathlon, Inc. has a NO REFUND policy. However, we do offer partial discounts for the future year to those canceling during our cancellation periods. If the event is NOT sold out, a discount code for 25% of your race registration fee will be offered until 14 days days prior to the race date. No discount codes will be given within 14 days days before the event. If the event IS sold out, a discount code for 80% of your race registration fee will be offered until 14 days days prior to the race date. No discount codes will be given within 14 days days before the event. Discount codes can be used to register for the following year Santa Barbara Triathlon events and will be valid for 12 months after the event date. To get your code, go to your imATHLETE account by clicking on the link in your confirmation email. Indicate that you want to cancel your registration. After you click “Submit,” you will get your discount code for next year. Keep this code someplace safe, and we look forward to seeing you next year!

If you have a medical reason that prevents you from participating you will need to provide a signed doctor’s letter advising us that you are not able to compete. This letter must be received at least 7 days prior to the event weekend in order for a partial credit to be considered for the following year. Processing fees, USAT one-day passes, and online registration fees will not be included in your credit.

 

Our event has a proud tradition as one of the oldest long course triathlon events in the United States, and we look forward to another successful year. However, we do want you to understand, before registering, the above policies and how they may affect you as a participant.
